西南大学（Southwest University），位于重庆市北碚区，是教育部直属，教育部、农业农村部、重庆市共建的重点综合大学，是国家首批"双一流"建设高校，"211工程"和"985工程优势学科创新平台"建设高校。现任党委书记为李旭锋教授、校长为张卫国教授。[1]

学校入选“111计划”“2011计划”“卓越农林人才教育培养计划”“卓越教师培养计划”“百校工程”“国家建设高水平大学公派研究生项目”，是国家大学生文化素质教育基地、全国自主选拔录取改革试点高校、中国政府奖学金来华留学生接收院校，也是重庆市大学联盟创始成员。

西南大学前身可追溯自1906年4月18日清政府在重庆创办的官立川东师范学堂，此后经历过川东联合县立师范学校、川东共立师范学校、西南师范大学、西南农业大学等时期。1981年，经国务院批准，学校成为全国首批博士和硕士学位授予单位。2005年，西南师范大学和西南农业大学合并组建为现在的西南大学。

Southwest University (SWU) can be traced back to Guanli East Normal School founded by Qing Government in Chongqing on April 18, 1906. Later, SWU experienced the period of East Sichuan United County Normal School, East Sichuan Gongli Normal School, Southwest Normal University, Southwest Agricultural University and so on. In 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of institutions granting doctoral and master degrees in China. In 2005, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University merged to form the present Southwest University.
